MPACN Website Redesign
How might we redesign the MPA Collaborative Network website experience to reduce cognitive overload for its diverse users, thereby ensuring they understand MPA CN’s purpose and navigate its resources seamlessly?
Over a 10-week period, I collaborated with a cross-functional student team of designers, researchers, and web builders in redesigning a website for the MPA Collaborative Network — a non-profit organization that advocated for marine protected area stewardship through the creation of community collaboratives on California's coastline — facilitated through UCSD Design Co's UP-Grade program.
We interviewed site users on pre-task, task, and post-task questions, and conducted various forms of analysis, including a Website Audit, Competitive Analysis, and SWOT Analysis. Participants noted that information was overwhelming, it was unclear just what the MPA CN is, and the resource library was particularly challenging to use.
We created a new style guide, graphics, website header, and footer. We worked on various low-fidelity, high-fidelity, and fully prototyped designs using Figma. We met regularly with stakeholders, mentors, and team members to hear and implement feedback and critiques, and ensure we were meeting the needs and expectations of MPA CN staff. To conclude, we utilized A/B testing to inform our final design decisions before ultimately implementing our changes to the WordPress website.
As the content strategist for the team, I rewrote and organized website content, created content and site maps, and worked on numerous wireframes and Figma prototypes with varying levels of fidelity. I implemented cohesive and thorough changes to the MPA CN website with our finished designs.
